RETAIL giant TK Maxx is the latest big-name to announce a new store in Eastbourne Town Centre, bringing a major boost to The Beacon.
The popular fashion and homeware chain will take over the prominent 24,000 sq ft unit formerly occupied by Wilko, it has been confirmed.
The store’s arrival is being hailed as a major win for The Beacon and a sign of growing confidence in the town’s retail offer.
Although an official opening date has yet to be announced, TK Maxx is expected to retain its existing outlet at Sovereign Harbour Retail Park.
Mark Powell, General Manager of The Beacon, said the news marks a turning point for the centre. He commented: “This is great news for The Beacon and great news for Eastbourne. TK Maxx is a huge brand with a loyal following, and we’re absolutely delighted they’ve chosen to take a prime spot here.
“We’ve worked hard to create a diverse and vibrant retail environment, and the addition of TK Maxx further strengthens that mix.”
The former Wilko site has undergone clearance and preparatory work over the past few months, with hoardings erected to reduce disruption to shoppers and neighbouring stores.
The site had attracted plenty of speculation, with many wondering which retailer would move in next.
“There’s been a lot of curiosity about what’s happening behind the scenes. Now we can finally confirm it – and we couldn’t be more pleased”, Mark added.
TK Maxx is known for its ‘off-price’ retail model, offering designer and branded fashion, homeware, accessories and gifts at up to 60% less than the recommended retail price. By purchasing excess stock from well-known labels, the retailer delivers big savings without compromising on style.
