VICTORIA Place in Eastbourne has officially reopened following a substantial redesign ahead of the busiest period for the town’s traders.
It closed in February to allow for new paving, upgraded street furniture, enhanced lighting, additional planters and improved cycle parking – part of a broader initiative to create a more ‘vibrant, traffic‑free route’ from the train station down to the beach.
Until 9 September, the central thoroughfare through Victoria Place will be fully open to pedestrians. A temporary tarmac surface outside shop fronts has been installed to ensure businesses remain accessible throughout the summer.
Following this period, detailed finish‑works including permanent paving and lighting are scheduled to resume, with full completion on track for December.
Local traders have welcomed the reopening, which alleviates summer disruptions. Many expressed relief that footfall can return while work continues discreetly in less central areas.
A series of events have been announced from 2nd August until September which will see live music and events in the street as part of the ‘Victoria Place Pop-Up Park’.
