A MORNING of celebration and community spirit brought local business owners together at the Breakwater Business Suite at FOUNDRY Eastbourne, where thebestof Eastbourne presented recognition certificates to members recently whose outstanding reputations through customer feedback.

The event recognised businesses that have consistently received positive reviews and recommendations from local people over the past year. Rather than relying on judging panels or nomination processes, the certificates reflect genuine customer experiences and the strength of trust built between businesses and the community they serve.

Members gathered over coffee to collect their certificates in person, reconnect with fellow business owners, and share stories behind the work that earned them recognition. The relaxed atmosphere reflected the supportive environment that has grown around thebestof Eastbourne network over many years, where businesses are encouraged not only to grow individually but also to support each other.

David Ruddle, owner of thebestof Eastbourne, said the morning was about recognising the steady, consistent effort local businesses make every day.

He said: “These certificates represent something deeply meaningful because they come directly from customers. They reflect trust, reliability, and the care businesses put into every interaction. Seeing members recognised in this way is always special, because behind every review is a relationship built through hard work and genuine commitment.”

Among those recognised were Swain Brothers, who are celebrating their 25th year in business. Owner Tim Swain was one of David Ruddle’s first clients when he took over thebestof Eastbourne, marking the beginning of a long-standing professional relationship. Their continued partnership reflects shared commitment, consistency, and the trust that has been built over many years of serving the local community.

Also recognised was Christopher Field of East Sussex Celebrant Services, whose work has grown through years of professional development and dedication to supporting families and organisations through meaningful and sensitive moments.

Christopher said: “It feels like all the hard work is paying off. The training, the qualifications, and the commitment to supporting families and organisations have been relentless and rewarding. Helping people through meaningful moments, while continuing to grow and develop professionally, gives me a real sense of purpose and reminds me why I chose this path.”

The presentations also reflected the wider impact of local businesses supporting one another and contributing to the strength of the Eastbourne business community. Many attendees spoke about the value of being part of a network where reputation, trust, and shared encouragement play an important role in maintaining confidence and visibility.

David Ruddle added: “One of the most powerful aspects of this recognition is that it comes from real experiences. When customers take the time to share their feedback, they are not just leaving a review. They are helping build confidence in local businesses and strengthening the community as a whole. These moments remind us that reputation is earned over time, through consistent care and professionalism.”

The event was supported by Rupert Kirby Photography, who captured the presentations and atmosphere of the morning. Rupert kindly donated his time while raising funds for St Wilfrid’s Hospice through his JustGiving fundraiser, reflecting the close connection between local businesses and charitable causes within the community and highlighting the generosity that often exists behind the scenes.

Thebestof Eastbourne has spent nearly 15 years supporting and promoting local businesses, helping them raise visibility, strengthen their reputation, and connect with local customers. Recognition events such as these reinforce the importance of customer feedback in helping businesses grow, while also giving businesses a moment to reflect on how far they have come.

For many members, receiving a certificate serves as a reminder of the relationships they have built and the positive difference their work makes. It also highlights the role local customers play in recognising and encouraging the businesses that serve them every day.

As Eastbourne continues to grow and evolve, events like this provide an opportunity to pause and celebrate the people behind local businesses who contribute to the character, trust, and strength of the town’s business community.

David Ruddle concluded: “Every review tells a story. It reflects someone taking the time to acknowledge good service, and that has real value. These presentations are not just about certificates. They are about recognising the people behind the businesses who show up every day and give their best.”

Local residents are encouraged to continue supporting businesses by sharing their experiences and recommendations, helping ensure that great service continues to be recognised and celebrated across Eastbourne.
