SPRINGWATCH presenter and conservationist Chris Packham CBE has backed the screening of a timely film about climate change, which is to be shown at the East Sussex village of East Dean.
East Dean village, near Eastbourne, is hosting a free public screening and discussion of The People’s Emergency Briefing on Friday, 5 June at 7pm in East Dean Village Hall.
The screening is part of a UK-wide programme to highlight the climate and nature crisis – and what it may mean for communities and decision-makers across the country.
With record temperatures recorded back-to-back over the last few days, the May heatwave is a timely reminder of the dramatic changes to our UK climate.
Science shows that climate change makes heatwaves hotter, longer, and more frequent. The People’s Emergency Briefing is part of a campaign to build a shared understanding of the risks and support constructive public dialogue about future choices.
Last November, more than 1,000 MPs, peers and leaders from business, culture, faith, sport and the media gathered at Westminster Central Hall for a National Emergency Briefing on climate.
This brought together leading experts, introduced by Chris Packham, who set out the implications of climate and nature breakdown for food security, public health, infrastructure, the economy and national security, alongside evidence-based actions to reduce these risks.
The national event has been made into a 50-minute public film, The People’s Emergency Briefing, which is being screened in communities across the UK.
Chris Packham said: “I’d encourage people everywhere to attend a screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing. It creates exactly the kind of honest local conversation we now urgently need, both about what these changes mean where we live, and about what we can do together to address them.”
