POLEGATE has a new mayor after councillors formally appointed Stephen Shing during the town’s Annual Statutory Meeting.
Councillor Stephen Shing officially took over the role of Mayor of Polegate during the meeting, with fellow councillor Dan Dunbar nominated to serve as Deputy Mayor for the coming civic year.
Cllr Dunbar said he was ‘extremely pleased’ to see Cllr Shing take on the role and thanked those who supported his own appointment as deputy.
He said: “During tonight’s Annual Statutory Meeting, I was extremely pleased to see Cllr Stephen Shing take over as Mayor of Polegate.
“During the meeting, Stephen nominated me to serve as his deputy, and I am thankful to those who supported this.
“Stephen has been a great support to me and I look forward to assisting him during his year.”
Cllr Shing’s appointment comes just days after he stood as a candidate in the Polegate & Watermill division in the recent East Sussex County Council elections.
The Mayor acts as Polegate Town Council’s civic figurehead, representing the town at official engagements and community events throughout the year.
