FOR the first time in its history, the Nissan MICRA has gone fully electric.
The sixth-generation model has stepped out of the design studio and onto the streets of Rotterdam, showcasing how a compact EV can blend agility, technology, and everyday practicality in one confident package.
Behind the wheel, the new MICRA instantly feels more than just a city runabout. Its low-mounted battery, multi-link rear suspension, and sharp steering combine to deliver a fluid drive with unexpected precision for a small EV. Whether darting through traffic or carving along winding country roads, the MICRA makes the most of its lightweight 1,500kg frame, instant torque, and optimised weight balance to deliver a spirited, playful character.
Nissan’s new AmpR small-car platform plays a key role here. With short overhangs, a 2.54m wheelbase and a low centre of gravity, the MICRA feels planted and controlled without losing agility. Despite its compact footprint, it’s surprisingly practical: a 326-litre boot and a 500kg towing capacity ensure it’s more than capable of handling day-to-day demands.
The all-electric MICRA comes with a choice of two battery packs, a 40kWh version offering up to 198 miles (WLTP) and a larger 52kWh unit delivering up to 260 miles. Both support 100kW DC fast charging, along with Vehicle-to-Load functionality for powering devices, and future-ready Vehicle-to-Grid compatibility. Nissan’s focus is on real-world usability, and with charging stops easily planned via the integrated navigation system, range anxiety is kept firmly in the rear-view mirror.
Styled at Nissan Design Europe in London, the new MICRA’s exterior brings SUV-inspired muscle to a small hatchback form. Pronounced shoulders, flush surfaces, and bold wheel arches give it a planted stance, while 18-inch wheels and a sculpted lower lip emphasise its lower centre of gravity. Inside, understated design meets driver-focused tech. Dual 10.1-inch displays integrate seamlessly into a clean dashboard, paired with soft-touch materials and ambient lighting. The driving position is low, the lines simple, and the overall feel premium without being fussy.
Connectivity is fully integrated. With Google built-in, drivers have Google Maps, Assistant, and the Play Store available directly through the cockpit. Voice commands, live navigation, and smart route planning with charging stops all come as standard. The NissanConnect app extends this experience beyond the car, allowing owners to precondition the cabin, check charge levels, and manage journeys remotely. Safety is equally comprehensive, with features such as Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Emergency Lane Keeping Assist, and optional systems like adaptive cruise control and parking assistance providing reassurance on every drive.
The new MICRA is more than just another model launch. It represents the first of four new fully electric vehicles Nissan plans to introduce in Europe by 2027. Alongside the MICRA, Nissan will roll out the new LEAF, JUKE, and a future A-segment EV, strengthening its electric line-up alongside its e-POWER hybrid technology.
UK orders are now open, with prices starting at £21,495 including a £1,500 government grant. First deliveries are expected from January 2026. Finance offers are available based on a 48-month term, 8,000 miles per year, a £4,000 deposit, and the government grant included.
