FIREFIGHTERS were called to a seafront restaurant in Eastbourne this morning (Wednesday) after a fryer caught fire in the kitchen.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to the Beach Deck on Royal Parade at 9.55am on 8 July after reports that a fryer was on fire.

Everyone inside the premises was safely evacuated while crews dealt with the incident.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used CO2 extinguishers to bring the blaze under control before carrying out checks with a thermal imaging camera to ensure there were no remaining hotspots.

A small area of the building, measuring approximately six to 10 square metres, was affected by the fire.

Three people were treated with first aid at the scene. No further details about their injuries have been released.

The fire has been confirmed as accidental.
