FIREFIGHTERS were called to Eastbourne town centre this morning (Wednesday) after smoke was spotted coming from the former Debenhams building.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to the building on Terminus Road at around 8.15am today (August 12).
Three fire engines from Eastbourne and Seaford attended the incident, with firefighters using three sets of breathing apparatus and a main jet to tackle the fire.
The blaze, which is believed to have started in an electrical substation in the basement of the building, was extinguished by around 9.30am.
Crews worked alongside UK Power Networks, which was also called to the scene, before a positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear smoke from the building.
South East Coast Ambulance Service and Sussex Police were also in attendance.
All people were accounted for and no injuries were reported.
Fire crews remained at the scene until around 10.50am.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental.
