Eastbourne Shoplifter tagged with Criminal Behaviour Order

A PROLIFIC shoplifter in Eastbourne has become the latest person to be issued with an electronically tagged device as part of a drive to cutdown on reoffending in Sussex.

Shane Monery, 36, of Hamsey Close, Eastbourne, appeared at Brighton Magistrates Court on 16 February after being charged with 10 counts of shoplifting in the town.

At Court, he was issued a 12 week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, issued a rehabilitation activity requirement, and a three-year criminal behaviour order (CBO) with 12 months tagging.

In addition to the tagging and reporting requirements, the criminal behaviour order includes several further conditions, including, but not limited to: entering any retail premises from which you have been formally banned and issued with a banning notice, as well as entering any Co-operative store in East Sussex.

His offending, which took place over a number of months, saw Monery target the CO-OP supermarket on Albert Parade, Eastbourne, causing significant losses to the store.
