FIREFIGHERS have been tackling a large open fire near East Dean Road in Eastbourne this afternoon (Saturday).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called to the incident, between Eastbourne Golf Club and Butts Brow, at 4.01pm, with multiple crews sent to the scene.
Two fire engines from Eastbourne are in attendance, supported by off-road firefighting vehicles from Crowborough and Seaford, along with a Water Carrier and Dual Purpose Truck from Uckfield.
The blaze affected an area measuring approximately 20 metres by 20 metres. Firefighters managed to surround the fire and made steady progress in bringing it under control.
There are currently no road closures in place, however, members of the public are being asked to avoid the area while emergency services continue their work.
No casualties have been reported.
