EASTBOURNE’S newly reopened Splash Pad has been forced to close just two weeks after welcoming families back for the summer due to a mechanical fault.
Eastbourne Borough Council announced the temporary closure today, apologising to residents and confirming that engineers are working to resolve the problem.
In a statement, the council said: “Unfortunately, due to a mechanical issue, the Splash Pad at Princes Park is temporarily closed while repairs are carried out.
“We apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while we work to get it back up and running as quickly as possible.”
The closure comes only days after the popular attraction officially reopened following a campaign to save it from permanent closure.
The Splash Pad had returned after Eastbourne MP Josh Babarinde secured £25,000 from Southern Water towards its annual operating costs, while Eastbourne Borough Council and local businesses also contributed to bringing the facility back into use.
Its reopening had already been delayed after a control panel failure required repairs, followed by extensive safety inspections and water quality testing before it was deemed safe to open.
News of the latest closure prompted frustration from many residents on social media, particularly parents who had travelled to Princes Park expecting to use the attraction.
