A POPULAR Eastbourne gymnastics club has been forced to temporarily close following repeated flooding at its Highfield Industrial Estate premises.
Be…Gymnastics, a registered charity, says heavy rain today (Wednesday) has damaged equipment and disrupted classes.
Head Coach and owner Beth Winter said: “This is an ongoing issue that has caused disruption to our classes on several occasions. Despite our efforts to resolve the problem, including engaging private contractors to improve the premises, flooding continues to affect our operations. Our club teaches many young children each week, and for safety reasons, we have had to temporarily close at times.”
She added that insurance no longer covers the incidents, leaving the club to rely on the support of staff and members.
The gym says it is now exploring legal options to protect the club and safeguard its members.
Beth added: “For many of our students, gymnastics is the highlight of their week. We are determined to weather these challenges and continue running the club for our community.”
A Spokesperson for SHW LLP told Eastbourne News: “We are acutely aware of working with the elements at this site where we have seagulls nesting in the guttering and, therefore, have regular maintenance in place to deal with this issue. Unfortunately, due to the volume of rain received in the last few days, the property received water ingress. Upon being informed of this we sent a team to the property within one hour to clear blockages causing the issue and we are continuing to work with the tenant, our client and contractor to provide the best ongoing solution.”
