EASTBOURNE Bonfire Society has confirmed its torchlit procession will return to the town centre as part of its 25th anniversary celebrations.
The society’s 2026 procession will travel through the town centre and along the seafront on Saturday, October 3, before a bonfire and fireworks display near the Wish Tower.
The announcement marks the biggest change to Eastbourne Bonfire Night in more than a decade.
Earlier plans had been subject to the completion of roadworks in Terminus Road, but the society has now officially announced that this year’s route will include the town centre.
Eastbourne Bonfire Society said: “We’re incredibly proud of how far the event has come and of the community that’s helped us reach this milestone.
“What began a quarter of a century ago as a small, humble procession in a field grew to the lower prom, then the full seafront route — and now, in the biggest change to our night in over a decade, we’re bringing the event into the town centre too.”
Bands and the society’s giant effigy are expected to join the torchlit procession, which organisers hope will be their “biggest and best ever”.
The society traces its roots to the Victorian era and previously marched through the town centre for many years. Since being reformed in 2001, its annual celebrations have largely taken place along the seafront.
