HUNDREDS of people gathered in Eastbourne on Saturday, 27 June, to mark Armed Forces Day, paying tribute to serving military personnel, veterans and cadets with a packed programme of entertainment and displays.
The annual event at Five Acre Field featured military vehicles, arena displays, live music and family attractions, attracting visitors of all ages throughout the day.
Proceedings began with the Eastbourne Veterans Parade and opening ceremony before a varied programme of entertainment got underway. Crowds enjoyed performances from Rocking Mike, singing classic hits from the 1950s and 1960s, while the Jackettes kept audiences entertained with live performances throughout the afternoon.
Among the highlights were impressive displays by the Rockets Motorcycle Display Team, military vehicle parades and falconry demonstrations, alongside family-friendly attractions including dinosaur-themed activities, relay races and a tug of war.
One of the day’s standout moments came when an RAF Chinook helicopter performed a low flypast over the event, drawing crowds’ attention as the distinctive twin-rotor aircraft passed overhead.
The event also celebrated the next generation of service personnel, with cadets taking part in a drill turnout competition before prize winners were announced.
Visitors had the opportunity to meet representatives from the Armed Forces community, view military vehicles and equipment, and learn more about the work of organisations supporting serving personnel, veterans and their families.
The commemorative event concluded with a final address and the sounding of the Last Post, providing a fitting end to a day dedicated to recognising the contribution and sacrifice of the UK’s Armed Forces, past and present.
