EASTBOURNE MP, Josh Babarinde, has praised local bus services after meeting with a senior figure from one of the region’s largest transport operators.

The MP met with Rupert Cox, Managing Director of the regional arm of the Go-Ahead Group, which operates services including Brighton & Hove Buses, Metrobus and Spirit of Sussex.

Following the meeting, Mr Babarinde said he continues to receive positive feedback from residents about the reliability, accessibility and quality of local bus services.

He also welcomed the company’s continued investment in the town, including the recent acquisition of a new depot on Birch Road, which he said would help strengthen operations across Eastbourne.

Among the developments highlighted was the launch of the new 500 bus service, which provides a 24-hour connection between Eastbourne and Gatwick Airport.

Mr Babarinde described the route as an affordable and convenient travel option, with fares capped at £3 and concessionary passes accepted and encouraged residents to make use of the service.

He also praised improvements to the Eastbourne Sightseeing Bus, saying refreshed branding and more modern vehicles would help support tourism and showcase the town to visitors.

Looking ahead, the MP said he would continue working with local bus companies to improve public transport and ensure services remain reliable, accessible and affordable.

One proposal he is keen to explore is the introduction of a shuttle bus linking Eastbourne District General Hospital with the Conquest Hospital in Hastings.

Mr Babarinde said the idea has been a long-standing request from local residents and could significantly improve travel for patients, staff and visitors moving between the two hospitals.
